Middle School
Our Middle School curriculum is designed to meet the essential developmental needs of young adolescents in grades six through eight. Students at this level must develop their individuality ... while also experiencing a sense of belonging. They must continue building foundations of academic, athletic, and aesthetic skills, and strengthen their core values.
During these years, change is the norm ... and we embrace it. Every day, we witness inspiring transformation: the seventh grader intimidated by math becomes a class leader when she suddenly grasps eighth grade algebra; the eighth grader who never heard of lacrosse emerges as a starting midfielder; the sixth grader reluctant to speak up in class finds a new voice in front of the audience in the Middle School play; the cautious child who didn’t want to go away for the three–day trip to Outdoor School in sixth grade shouts gleefully to his mates as he whizzes down the 75–foot zipline on the eighth grade trip to Echo Hill.
To that end, we carefully provide the most effective balance of challenge, fun, and support to help each child find their way, under the careful guidance and personal attention of our dedicated teachers.
The philosophy that guides our Lower School program still applies; we give our Middle School students worthy challenges ... so they can practice working for and enjoying success. Such experiences nurture a motivation and joy for learning that will serve our students far beyond their school years.
